Bridget Boylan, PT, LAc

Theresa Macmillan LMP, LAc

Joe Arellano, LMP, Bsc, CHC

Joseph Jowdy, Chi Kung Practitioner

Judy Russell, Visual Artist

DESCRIPTION:

The objective of this retreat is to learn how to care for ourselves and our clients, utilizing the Five Elements in nature and applying it to our lives. The elements are: Water-Wood-Fire-Earth-Metal.  We will utilize various techniques that are grounded in this tradition, i.e. Mindfulness Meditation, Qi Gong Exercises & Postures, and Sound Healing. An  introduction to the Five Elements and how they manifest in our bodies and our lives will be provided.   Archetypes of the unconscious will be explored as a way to access parts of ourselves that are hidden, and therefore help our clients to do so.

You will experience ways to exercise and relax the body and mind, in order to be more centered in your professional practice. Retreat offerings include:

CHI KUNG/ QI GONG:

Chi Kung is the practice of developing one’s internal energy - “Chi”.  Regular practice of Chi Kung meditation and exercises helps to calm the mind and relax the body.  Chi Kung’s slow movements promote the circulation of energy in the body, which tonifies and strengthens your whole being while reducing stress.  The result is a clearer mental focus and sustained physical energy.  In addition to its health benefits, Chi Kung has been used to develop martial arts foundation, i.e. leg and back strength, balance, endurance, and an ability to sense an opponent’s internal strength. This will be taught by Joseph Jowdy.

The mindful techniques of Chi Kung have stood the test of time.  For thousands of years, the art of Chi Kung has been practiced and handed down to generation after generation.  My teacher, Simu Min Ou Yang, a Chi Kung Grand Master and one of the world’s foremost authorities on Chi Kung, came to the United States from Shanghai, China in 1981.  Joe’s  practice and study of Chi Kung began in 1986 as her student.  In addition, he has been practicing Tai Chi Chuan since 1984.

MEDITATION - MINDFULNESS

In the domain of healthcare, professional caregivers are often faced with constant demands of those who suffer from pain, injury and illness. Many of these issues require our intentional diligence to deliver optimal healthcare delivery. However, we often lose focus to other external demands which pull us away from our authentic intent.

This retreat will offer the topic of “On Becoming Present” which will explore the nature of awareness through lecture, discussion and mindfulness meditation practice. It will serve as an opportunity for self-renewal here and at home. If you have a meditation cushion (ZAFU) and mat (ZABUTON), please bring along. If not chairs will be available. Please bring a personal journal for recording thoughts and insights.

Marriage...A Must Read, Sometimes something comes along so powerful to read we must share!

This Message comes from Stephanie Hamilton Brown via Facebook:   Marriage...A Must Read

MARRIAGE

When I got home that night as my wife served dinner, I held her hand and said, I've got something to tell you. She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes.

Suddenly I didn't know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking. I want a divorce. I raised the topic calmly.

She didn't seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, why?

I avoided her question. This made her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, you are not a man! That night, we didn't talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory answer; she had lost my heart to Jane. I didn't love her anymore. I just pitied her!

With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that she could own our house, our car, and 30% stake of my company.

She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces. The woman who had spent ten years of her life with me had become a stranger. I felt sorry for her wasted time, resources and energy but I could not take back what I had said for I loved Jane so dearly. Finally she cried loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected to see. To me her cry was actually a kind of release. The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer now.

The next day, I came back home very late and found her writing something at the table. I didn't have supper but went straight to sleep and fell asleep very fast because I was tired after an eventful day with Jane.

When I woke up, she was still there at the table writing. I just did not care so I turned over and was asleep again.

In the morning she presented her divorce conditions: she didn't want anything from me, but needed a month's notice before the divorce. She requested that in that one month we both struggle to live as normal a life as possible. Her reasons were simple: our son had his exams in a month's time and she didn't want to disrupt him with our broken marriage.

This was agreeable to me. But she had something more, she asked me to recall how I had carried her into out bridal room on our wedding day.

She requested that every day for the month's duration I carry her out of our bedroom to the front door ever morning. I thought she was going crazy. Just to make our last days together bearable I accepted her odd request.

I told Jane about my wife's divorce conditions. . She laughed loudly and thought it was absurd. No matter what tricks she applies, she has to face the divorce, she said scornfully.

My wife and I hadn't had any body contact since my divorce intention was explicitly expressed. So when I carried her out on the first day, we both appeared clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, daddy is holding mommy in his arms. His words brought me a sense of pain. From the bedroom to the sitting room, then to the door, I walked over ten meters with her in my arms. She closed her eyes and said softly; don't tell our son about the divorce. I nodded, feeling somewhat upset. I put her down outside
the door. She went to wait for the bus to work. I drove alone to the office.

On the second day, both of us acted much more easily. She leaned on my chest. I could smell the fragrance of her blouse. I realized that I hadn't looked at this woman carefully for a long time. I realized she was not young any more. There were fine wrinkles on her face, her hair was graying! Our marriage had taken its toll on her. For a minute I wondered what I had done to her.

On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I felt a sense of intimacy returning. This was the woman who had given ten years of her life to me.

On the fifth and sixth day, I realized that our sense of intimacy was growing again. I didn't tell Jane about this. It became easier to carry her as the month slipped by. Perhaps the everyday workout made me stronger.

She was choosing what to wear one morning. She tried on quite a few dresses but could not find a suitable one. Then she sighed, all my dresses have grown bigger. I suddenly realized that she had grown so thin, that was the reason why I could carry her more easily.

Suddenly it hit me... she had buried so much pain and bitterness in her heart. Subconsciously I reached out and touched her head.

Our son came in at the moment and said, Dad, it's time to carry mom out. To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had become an essential part of his life. My wife gestured to our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I turned my face away because I was afraid I might change my mind at this last minute. I then held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly; it was just like our wedding day.

But her much lighter weight made me sad. On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. I held her tightly and said, I hadn't noticed that our life lacked intimacy.

I drove to office.... jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my mind...I walked upstairs. Jane opened the door and I said to her, Sorry, Jane, I do not want the divorce anymore.

She looked at me, astonished, and then touched my forehead. Do you have a fever? She said. I moved her hand off my head. Sorry, Jane, I said, I won't divorce. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I didn't value the details of our lives, not because we didn't love each other anymore. Now I realize that since I carried her into my home on our wedding day I am supposed to hold her until death do us apart.

Jane seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into tears. I walked downstairs and drove away.

At the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet of flowers for my wife. The salesgirl asked me what to write on the card. I smiled and wrote, I'll carry you out every morning until death do us apart.

That evening I arrived home, flowers in my hands, a smile on my face, I run up stairs, only to find my wife in the bed - dead.
My wife had been fighting CANCER for months and I was so busy with Jane to even notice. She knew that she would die soon and she wanted to save me from the whatever negative reaction from our son, in case we push thru with the divorce.-- At least, in the eyes of our son--- I'm a loving husband....

The small details of your lives are what really matter in a relationship. It is not the mansion, the car, property, the money in the bank. These create an environment conducive for happiness but cannot give happiness in themselves. So find time to be your spouse's friend and do those little things for each other that build intimacy. Do have a real happy marriage!

If you don't share this, nothing will happen to you.

If you do, you just might save a marriage.
Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.

A CHRIST-CENTERED MARRIAGE IS A MARRIAGE THAT IS SURE TO LAST A LIFETIME.

So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate. Matthew 19:6

Can you get shingles from the Chicken Pox Vaccine??? YES!!!

__________________________
Right before school let out for the summer I got a phone call from my son's school asking me to come pick him up because he had a strange rash. They were saying he was complaining because it was hurting and itching at the same time. The school nurse thought it could be chicken pox but after seeing the rash I knew that no way was it chicken pox. I had never seen shingles in person before and had NEVER heard of a small child getting shingles before. After SEVERAL visits to the doctors the final conclusion was that he had shingles. They hadn't seen a child with shingles before & then they let me know that he could have gotten it from having had chicken pox. The thing is........he had never had chicken pox but had been given the chicken pox vaccine. I was then told that the chicken pox vaccine can cause shingles but that they could not say exactly that the vaccine was the cause.

I have since done a bunch of research on this matter & the information is not good. If I were asked to give me personal opinion regarding this vaccine, I would say DON'T DO IT! There is now is a shingles vaccine and research is still going on for a Shingles Vaccine for adults as a result from the chicken pox vaccine. Here are some links to information, reports and research I have found regarding shingles and the chicken pox vaccine.........

Why Stinky Vinegar?

Why Vinegar???
Have you ever wondered why anyone would want anything to do with that gross stinky stuff called “Vinegar” and what could it possibly be used for?

 ~Well, let me tell Ya!~

What has Vinegar been used for???

Here are just some of the things that I found that Vinegar has been historically used for...

To treat insect stings & bites, Blood Glucose Regulation, Antiseptic Action, Indigestion,

To treat infections, Itching, Acne, Arthritis, Age spots, Nausea, Headache Helper, Athletes Foot, Birth Control, Baths, Disinfectant, Douche, Congestion Relief, Lighten Freckles, To Remove Corns On Feet, Tired Muscles, Mouth Healer, Sore Throat Gargle, Burn & Sunburn Relief, Dandruff, Digestive Problems, Ear Infections, Leg Cramps, Liniment, Morning Sickness, Hiccups, Hair Rinse, Hair Color Enhancer, Heart Health, To Keep Camping & Hiking Water Fresh, Incontinence, For Repelling Ants, Fleas & Tics, To Clean Paint Brushes, Cleans Aluminum, Brightens & Removes Odors From Carpets, Fabric Color Set & Dye Set, To Remove Stains From Fabrics, Carpets etc., Removes Odors From Fabrics, Carpets & Hard Surfaces, To Clean Chrome & Stainless Steel, Insect Control & De-Worming, To Remove Chewing Gum, Removes Underarm Odor & Stains, Repelling Cats From Gardens, Dusting & Furniture Polish, Easter Eggs, To Whiten Clothes, Crayon Stain Remover, To Unclog Drains, To Clean Glass, Removes Cement From Hands, Keeps Cut Flowers Fresher Longer, Glue Removal, To Clean Electric Irons, To Clean Garbage Disposal, Removes Rust & Ink Stains, Clean & Season Iron Skillets, Pots & Pans, To Extend Lingerie Life, A Silk & Laundry Rinse, Kills Weeds, To Disinfect Kitchen Counters, Loosens Corroded Screws & Hinges, Dissolves Scorch Marks, Oven Cleaner, Ant-Static For Plastic, Cleans Floors, Toys & Vinyl, Air Freshener, Sinusitis, Facial Neuralgia, Common Warts, Bed Wetting, Seed Starting, Germination, To Improve Light From Propane Lamps, Helps Knives Sharpen Better, Cleans & Polishes Leather, Pet Health, Removes Paint From Glass, Produce Rinse, Cleans Lime Deposits, Keeps Linens From Yellowing, Removes Mildew & Mold, Toothache, Removes Water Rings In Wood Furniture, Keeps Windows Frost Free, Can Remove Catsup & Wines Stains, Weight Loss, Wood Scratches, Woodworm Deterrent For Wood Furniture, Cleans Windows & Mirrors, Rectal Itching, Yeast Infections, Hives, Oily Skin, Cold Sores, Poison Ivy & Oak, Minor Cuts & Abrasions, Varicose Veins, Diaper Rash, Jock Itch, Eczema, Bladder Infections, Detoxifier, Muscle & Joint Stiffness.

Scientific Research Results Regarding Vinegar…

Currently, there is research that strongly suggests that Vinegar can prevent the accumulation of fat cells and prevent weight gain (my favorite research!). The acetic acid levels have shown promising research that Vinegar may help to control blood sugar levels and blood pressure. On average Vinegar has been known to kill up to 82% of molds, 99% of Bacteria and up to 80% of virus causing germs. Your cleaning solution containing Vinegar should contain 5% or more of Vinegar that contains no additives or preservatives for it to have the bacteria, mold & germ fighting & killing properties!

How is Vinegar Made???

It’s a process where sugars turn into alcohol and then turns into vinegar.

Here is a very simple outline of the process…

Only fresh juices with no additives or preservatives are used to make vinegar. The 1st step is to use a gallon glass jug to put the juice in and use an air lock lid for this part of the fermentation process. This is stored at room temperature for 4 to 6 weeks until the sugars have changed into alcohol. When the bubbling process has stopped is when the liquid is ready for the next step. The next step in the fermentation process is to divide liquid into 2 jugs and add the “Mother of Vinegar” (Vinegar already made) 1 part to 4 parts. This step converts the alcohol into acetic acid and requires air exposure. Cover jug openings with a fabric and tie it down to ensure opening is completely covered to keep out dust and insects. This fermentation step takes 3 to 9 months depending on the surface to volume ratio.

Here are several sites with great instruction on the…”How To” of making Vinegars!

There are many sites and books on making Vinegar here are a few great sites I found…

Vinegar History

Here is just some of the history on Vinegar that I found........

For thousands of years around the world, Apple Cider Vinegar and White Vinegar have been used to improve health, for cleaning, killing bacteria, removing orders, stains and spot removal.

The Babylonians were 1st to mention the medicinal value of Apple Cider Vinegar around 7000 years ago. History shows them frequently using ACV as a preservative and a condiment.

Throughout the Bible Apple Cider Vinegar is mentioned being used as antiseptic and for all kinds of healing purposes. From the time of Old Testament, laborers then and now sportsmen would use a combination of vinegar, salt and water creating a version of Gatorade. This was used for keeping and maintaining energy levels that had been depleted by sweating under heat of the sun and extreme body exertion.

The Romans and Greek were found to have used ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) for healing purposes and flavoring. The early Romans, Greeks and Asian Physicians are historically known for using ACV to treat such conditions as Bile Reduction, Scurvy, and Digestive Ailments.

History shows that the ancient Persian used a drink of vinegar, lime juice and sour fruit for preventing fatty accumulations in the body.

Hippocrates the Father of Medicine treated and prescribed his patients un-distilled Apple Cider Vinegar as a healing elixir.

Egyptian Urns dating back to 3000BC have traces of ACV. Cleopatra won a bet by dissolving a pearl in Vinegar and drank it to prove she could consume a fortune for a meal.

During the Middle Ages in Paris barrels were sold of ACV on the streets that were used for tonics, deodorants, to keep the body healthy, to make Vinegar drinks, and were also thought to have anti-aging properties. During the Black Plague it is reported that those who breathed through a cloth of soaked with ACV were spared from the Black Plague. Apple Cider Vinegar was also used to cover up the stench of sewage during that time era.

Christopher Columbus along with the majority of Ship Captains used barrels of Vinegars on board their ships for cleaning purposes, tonics and for antiseptic treatments.

Soldiers throughout history have used ACV as a disinfectant for wound healing and scurvy prevention. History shows that Roman soldiers used ACV and fire alternately to break through the Alp Mountains. This process would cause the rocks to heat and then contract making the “Break Through” possible. Before refrigeration was available other means were used to preserve foods. Using Vinegar in the canning process was one way. The other ways were to “Salt” meats and Smoking was the other option.

Japanese history shows that warriors in Japan would consume/drink Apple Cider Vinegar for strength and power.

"The Attic Girl" Sugar Scrub Review is in.......

And what a lovely Review it is........

By: Shelly Dixon

I don't know about you, but my skin is feeling the effects of winter dryness. It's important to find a good product that will exfoliate dry and dead skin to keep it looking healthy.

I was recently contacted by Kelly Lynch Ring from Vital Earth Traditions to try out her natural sugar scrubs.

What is a sugar scrub?

Sugar scrubs are great exfoliators that peel away the dry and dead skin cells on the surface layer of the skin, revealing smooth and healthy skin underneath. They also contain moisturizing ingredients to keep your skin hydrated.

I absolutely LOVED Kelly's sugar scrubs! Not only do they feel great on your skin, but they also provide aromatherapy while you shower. My favorite sugar scrub is peppermint pattie. It has an invigorating smell of mint that is not too overpowering and leaves you feeling like you just walked out of your own home spa!

Benefits of Vital Earth Traditions products:

*Natural chemical free products for you home and body
*Products are made with fresh local organic ingredients as they are available
*Handmade Process
*Provide the skin with valuable nutrients, medicinal value and that have anti-aging qualities

Quote to Ponder...

The purpose of life is a life of purpose.   ~ Robert Byrne

"Hater" By: Maya Angelou

A hater is someone who is jealous and envious and spends all their time, trying to make you look small so they can look tall.

They are very negative people to say the least. Nothing is ever good enough!

When you make your mark, you will always attract some haters...That’s why you have to be careful with whom you share your blessings and your dreams, because some folk can't handle seeing you blessed... It’s dangerous to be like somebody else...

If the Creator wanted you to be like somebody else, You would have been given what was given to others! Right? You never know what people have gone through to get what they have...

The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but they don’t know my story... If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, you can rest assured that the water bill is higher there too!

We've all got some haters among us! People envy you because you can:

Be ONE with the CREATOR and ONE with SELF
Light up a room when you walk in
Start your own business
Tell a man / woman to hit the curb (if he / she isn't about the right thing)
Raise your children without both parents being in the home

Haters can't stand to see you happy; Haters will never want to see you succeed; Haters never want you to get the victory, most of our haters are people who are supposed to be on our side! How do you handle your undercover haters?

You can handle these haters by:

1. Knowing who you are & who your true friends are *(VERY IMPORTANT!!)

2. Having a purpose to your life? Purpose does not mean having a job. You can have a job and still be unfulfilled. A purpose is having a clear sense of what the Creator has called you to be. Your purpose is not defined by what others think about you.

3. By remembering what you have is by divine prerogative and not human manipulation.

Fulfill your dreams! You only have one life to live...when it’s your time to leave this earth, you 'want' to be able to say, 'I've lived my life and fulfilled 'my' dreams,... Now I'm ready to go HOME! When the Creator gives you favor, you can tell your haters, 'Don't look at me...Look at Who is in charge of me...'

Watch out for Haters....................BUT most of all don't become a HATER!?

'A woman's heart should be so hidden in Light that a man should have to be Light first to find her!
